Ryu Ramen and Curry: Underrated Goodness
Ground Floor, Jazz Residences, N. Garcia cor. Jupiter St., Makati City
With the slew of Ramen places in the metropolis, what would make one stand against all others? Is it the ambiance provided by the interiors, a delectable taste beyond description or simply a great and warm feeling brought about by hot soup, great noodles and everything in between?
One rainy afternoon, before my evening class, I decided to try this ramen place that truth be told, I’ve never heard before. Ryu Ramen was something new, and perhaps something worth discovering. Continue reading →
Buffet 101 at the New Glorietta
3rd Floor, Glorietta 2, Ayala Center, Makati
22 September 2014
On a whim my wife and I visited the newly opened Buffet 101 at the New Glorietta, we were enticed by the promise of an elegant and upscale buffet that they were able to deliver in their Mall of Asia branch. Their tagline of serving the same level of gastronomic experience as in upscale hotels is up for my judgment.
If any of you have gone up north to Subic, for sure you’ve tried or at least heard of Meat Plus Cafe, a local steak house popular with the locals and the tourists as well. It’s a very homey and familiar steak house that evokes a southern comfort vibe. True enough and it was only a matter of time before they would expand and join the ever growing Manila food scene. As they have already opened for quite a while, and a bit of buzz has been made; I will try to provide a glimpse of what they have to offer on my family’s second visit to the steak joint. We went to Il Ponticello for their themed dinner, Couple’s Date Night, which happens every Monday evening and is suppose to be an enchanting evening of music, romance and dining. The place was all set for a romantic ambience with a piano man and dimmed lighting. The establishment has earned rave reviews including several awards as one of the better restaurants in Manila.
We tried out Kulinarya Kitchen at the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell. The friendly staff warmly ushered the group in; even if the restaurant has an upscale vibe, it manages to retain that familiar and welcoming vibe. I have to say I was surprisingly impressed by the food, their service and the overall dining experience. The owner welcomed us and introduced their menu, which was of an Asian and European fusion origin. Continue reading →
I was invited by OpenRice to review Papa John’s a pizza joint that has opened here in Manila. Good pizzas overall I must say. They served three pizza flavors to us, looked quite good and a feast for the eyes.
The ultimate combination of tasty pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, freshly sliced mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and black olives. A legendary taste treat!
This was the first thing I grabbed, I think while people were chatting about the food I was already grabbing a bite. All the flavors were just right, no overpowering single taste. Perfect balance of flavors, I specially liked the cheese and the toppings though the overall taste experience was held back by the crust. The crust was just ok. Continue reading →
I was a bit hesitant when my wife told me that we were going to try Alba’s lunch buffet, I’ve heard great things about the place but I am not much of a fan of stuffy and formal dining places. The restaurant was neatly hidden and tucked near Jupiter St. and Makati Avenue, when we arrived a lot of cars were arked near the restaurant good thing the security guard was kind enough to find us a decent spot to park right in front of the entrance [^_^]
To be honest this was the first time that I tried authentic Spanish cuisine, we’ve always eaten at fast food restaurants of the Spanish kind but I’m not sure how authentic and faithful there dishes are. Much to my surprise, the place was like a bistro with families and foodies having a great time enjoying the dishes, when I got over my initial hesitation I immediately went to the buffet spread and they did have a lot to offer.
